Virgin Radio Community by Jon Glass

107.3 Virgin Radio is now available in Victoria.

Virgin Radio host Chris Palliser says, “the goal of the show is to be local and community minded.”

Palliser thinks there will always be a need for radio. So, having a community focused radio show will be an asset.

“There is always a place for that personal connection.” Says Palliser. “There is always a place for traffic and weather. Our goal is to make that one on one personal connection with those that are listening and so they keep listening.”

Even with developments in radio technology such as satellite radio, it cannot replace the local radio stations as they aren’t focused on local news and information.

“If you are driving in and you hear about an event that is happening this weekend you are going to hear about that on local radio. You aren’t going to hear that on satellite radio.” Says Palliser.

Palliser has a long career in radio, from Nanaimo, Fort McMurray, Vancouver and now here in Victoria. However, Palliser was born and raised here in Victoria and he is happy to be back where the community is more focused than some of the larger areas in which he has worked.

“Vancouver is so big, and so spread out” say Palliser. “In Vancouver its hard to create that sense of community because it is so big. It also makes Vancouver an amazing place, but that community idea of a show I feel can have much more success in Victoria than it can in Vancouver because we are a part of the community.”

Victoria is fortunate to have quite a few local radio stations, and Palliser hopes to stand out with the branding as they already know the community.

Palliser says, “all of our imaging is about we are from here, we are from here, they get it, they played in Johnny Zee’s down on Blanchard street, they went to all fun water park back in the day.”

Palliser can be heard on 107.3 Virgin Radio during the Virgin Mornings with Brittany and Chris show between 5:30am to 10am.
